The Spurgeons team at HMP Winchester has been awarded a Police and Crime Commissioner’s Commendation for their exceptional contribution during the Coronavirus pandemic at December’s Safer Awards organised by the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Commissioner’s Safer Awards recognise the outstanding contribution volunteers and partners make to the criminal justice system and in keeping the community safer.

People from across the public, private and voluntary sector are recognised for the difference they make to help the lives of others.

Announcing the award to the Spurgeons HMP Winchester team, the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner said:

The team have worked extremely hard during these exceptional times to support the families of offenders in Winchester and networking with those inside. The family’s pathway to reducing reoffending is key to ensuring desistance upon release, and the Spurgeons network has gone over and above to keep the family links strong.

Well done to everyone who is part of the Spurgeons team at HMP Winchester for this outstanding recognition!
