Faringdon Families at The Place
The Faringdon Families project provides play sessions and advice for families with 0-5 year olds in the Faringdon area of Oxfordshire. The service is part of a partnership between Spurgeons and Faringdon Town Council and has been developed from the Spurgeons Together for Families programme.
Due to Covid-19 some services we usually provide have been suspended but we are finding safe ways to keep support services running for families and children.
''You have been so friendly and welcoming and have provided the opportunity for us to stay in touch with other families during a strange and fairly lonely time.''
Spurgeons first worked with Churches Together in Faringdon in 1998, helping to set up Faringdon Family Centre based at the Baptist Church. This later became a Children's Centre under Oxfordshire County Council, continuing to be run by Spurgeons until 2013.
After the closure of the Children's Centres in Oxfordshire left a gap in the support available for families with young children in the town, Faringdon Town Council and members of Churches Together approached Spurgeons to develop a new offer for local families. The Place now provides support to children and families continuing a partnership between Faringdon and Spurgeons which spans almost a quarter of a century.
We support for families with children under 5. The Place aims to provide emotional and physical support to new families, education and information to younger parents, care for expectant mothers and infants and a space to make new friendships by offering a place for children and babies to interact with one another.
The Place offers:
- Support to families through face-to-face groups or virtual group sessions.
- One-to-one support via phone and email
- Physical activities such as new parent new baby groups, breastfeeding cafes and more.
- Craft packs and educational resources for children under 5
- Clothes library providing maternity and baby clothes
