Spurgeons helps more than 37,000 children and young people and over 64,000 parents and carers. Our Christian faith remains an active and important motivation for the work that we do. It forms the roots from which our people’s collective desire to help children and young people is linked to, regardless of their own beliefs.

We have exciting new opportunities to join our team at HMP Bure to deliver family services within a prison setting. and are looking for enthusiastic, imaginative individuals experienced in working with children and families

We are looking for people who believe that families visiting their loved ones in prison deserve to be treated in a respectful, non-judgmental and empathic way, encouraging a positive visit experience.

Can you make a cup of tea, play with a child or listen with empathy?

  • Visitor Centre – meet and greet families, provide emotional support, serve refreshments, set up and clear away childrens activities and basic admin tasks. Visitors Centres are located within close proximity to the prison – this involves no contact with prisoners.

  • Play – within the Visits Hall (inside the prison gates – prisoners present) engaging in play activities with children of all ages, allowing families space to talk.

Friday. Saturday and Sunday availability is preferable. Full training will be provided. All roles require DBS clearance and some roles require Prison Vetting Clearance. Please note these checks can take a number of weeks to process.

Testimonial

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The shop, the barn, the scullery, and the smithy become temples when men and women do all to the glory of God. The 'divine service' is not a thing of a few hours and a few places, but all life becomes holiness unto the Lord, and every place and thing, as consecrated as the tabernacle and its golden candlestick.
