Prisoners' Families Helpline

The National Prisoners' Families Helpline can support you is a family member is in contact with the criminal justice system.
The helpline is free and open 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am - 3pm Saturday and Sunday.
Prison visits
Visits can be booked online up to 28 days before the visit.
The Gov.uk website also includes useful information on visiting, staying in touch and sending money into the prison.
Assisted prisons visits

If you are claiming certain benefits you might be able to get support paying for travel to the prison, somewhere to stay overnight and meals.
Telephone lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.

The quickest way to stay in touch between visits is to use the Email a Prisoner service. You will need your loved ones prisoner number.
Please allow 72 hours for this to be set up.

Offering a Helping Hand
Offering a Helping Hand is a new booklet, which addresses the impact of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) and other indeterminate sentences on prisoners and their families.
The booklet is a joint publication by Spurgeons and Southampton Law School and draws on collaborative work and families of those serving IPP sentences carried out by Associate Professor at the Law School, Dr Harry Annison. It is also informed by insights provided by Spurgeons' Invisible Walls team at HMP Winchester.
