Do you have a passion to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and families?

Spurgeons Charity is seeking a new Trustee and Chair of the Finance Committee (Designate) to join our current Board in bringing prayerful wisdom, strategic guidance and skilled service over the coming years.

Spurgeons is one of the UK’s leading family charities, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families for 150 years. Inspired by our Christian faith, our mission is to provide support for children, young people and families who are experiencing difficulties or challenges so that they can have a better present and a hopeful future.

We support children and families across England in a variety of ways including: whole family support in children centres and family hubs, helping young carers, working with families affected by domestic abuse, delivering parenting courses, supporting families affected by imprisonment and offering schools counselling.

In order to support Board succession planning, we are seeking to recruit a wise and strategic-minded finance leader who will initially join the Board as a Trustee and shadow our existing Chair of the Finance Committee for a few months before taking up the committee Chair role in September or November 2023.

It is an exciting time to consider stepping into this key governance role, as we prepare to launch an ambitious growth strategy in the coming months. We are blessed with a strong balance sheet and very healthy reserves, and the incoming committee Chair will play a central role in shaping how we invest our resources wisely in order to support more vulnerable children, young people and families in the future.

Given an occupational requirement for Spurgeons Trustee roles to be filled by Christians, we are seeking candidates with a personal and active Christian faith who are comfortable and aligned with the statement of faith outlined here.

Spurgeons values diversity, promotes inclusion, and encourages applications from a diverse range of candidates, including those with lived experience of children’s support services e.g. as a child, parent or carer.

Application is by submission of CV and cover letter to laura.bagley@macaulaysearch.com by 12 noon on Friday 27th January 2023.

Please contact Laura if you have any questions about this opportunity.
