When our Wiltshire Children’s Centres began sharing activity ideas with families online due to the Covid-19 lockdown, they spotted that the more vulnerable and financially stretched families weren’t joining in.
This was likely because they did not have access to the basic materials needed – either because of finances or because they were unlikely to be able to get out to stores.
The Children’s Centre team decided to contact the local Wiltshire Scrapstore project, which they had worked closely with in the past, to see if there was any opportunity to reach those vulnerable families during this difficult time. The Wiltshire Scrapstore project is a community charity initiative that repurposes resources that would otherwise go to landfill and distributes them for use in creative activities and projects.

Since the Scrapstore had been awarded funding to supply families with craft resources during the coronavirus crisis, it was able to team up with our Children’s Centres to provide craft supplies for more than 20 families identified by our Family Support Workers and Early Years Workers as most in need.
Well done to our colleagues in Wiltshire and thanks to Wiltshire Scrapstore for making this happen.
