Meet the Team: Head of Growth and Partnerships at Spurgeons
At Spurgeons, our people are at the heart of everything we do. In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we caught up with our Head of Growth & Partnerships to learn more about their role, what motivates them, and life outside of work.
Tell us about your role at Spurgeons
As Head of Growth & Partnerships, I’m responsible for helping to grow both our commissioned and non-commissioned services. My role involves identifying opportunities, developing partnerships and working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure we can continue expanding our impact.
Alongside this, I also support our advocacy work by providing the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Family Hubs, helping to bring together key voices to champion support for children and families.
If you could describe your typical workday in three words, what would they be?
Reactive, varied and relational.
My days are often shaped by emerging opportunities, requests and priorities that require timely responses, so being reactive is essential. The role is incredibly varied too - no two days are ever the same, and I’m constantly working across different areas of development, each with its own focus and challenges.
Most importantly, my work is relational. Building connections is at the heart of what I do, whether that's with colleagues, partners, commissioners or organisations that share our passion for supporting children and families.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
There may not be any surprising hobbies to reveal, but I love spending time with my animals. Caring for my three cats, dog, gecko and python keeps me busy and provides the perfect balance to a busy working week.
What’s your favourite part of your role?
Without a doubt, it’s the people.
I have the privilege of meeting and working with a wide variety of organisations, hearing about the incredible work they’re doing and exploring ways we can collaborate. Finding opportunities to connect people, ideas and services to create greater impact is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
What might surprise people about your role?
People are often surprised by how much work happens behind the scenes before anything becomes visible.
A significant part of my role involves identifying opportunities, developing partnerships and bringing stakeholders together around a shared vision. While the outcomes may eventually be seen in new services, projects or collaborations, there is a great deal of relationship-building, planning and alignment that takes place long before that happens.
Our Head of Growth and Partnerships plays a vital role in helping Spurgeons build meaningful partnerships and identify new opportunities to support even more children, young people and families across the UK.
