Shining a light on a very special supporter
Meet Elsie, aged 9
For some children, a fundraising challenge might just sound like a fun way to spend some time, but for Elsie, it meant something more personal.
Earlier this year, Elsie received counselling support through Spurgeons at school, helping her work through some worries she'd been experiencing. Like so many children, Elsie faced challenges that felt big and difficult to navigate on her own. Through our school-based counselling service, she was given a safe space to talk, be heard, and build the tools to manage those worries. The support made such a positive impact on her that, when the opportunity came along, she knew exactly what she wanted to do: give something back.
Over 27.5 hours, Elsie took on the challenge - cycling, walking, exploring and absolutely smashed her target. We're delighted to share that Elsie completed the full 27.5 Hour Summer Challenge and raised an amazing £80 for Spurgeons.
What have we learned from Elsie's fundraising challenge?
Elsie wanted other children to have access to the same kind of help that made such a difference to her. And that's what makes Elsie's fundraiser so special.
Every pound raised through challenges like this one highlights how important the support we deliver can be on a child's life. Funds raised helps Spurgeons continue offering vital support to children and families. Elsie's £80 will go towards ensuring more children have someone to turn to when things feel overwhelming, just as she did.
Feeling inspired?
And if Elsie's story has inspired you, why not consider taking on your own fundraising challenge for Spurgeons? Every step, every hour, and every pound makes a difference to the children and families who rely on our support.
