Sometimes, transformation starts with something as simple as a game of football.
When Nicola, Spurgeons' Senior Community Liaison Navigator, began speaking to parents in Wiltshire, she noticed something had changed. Children in the community had stopped using their local park. Instead of playing outside, many were spending their free time indoors. Parents told Nicola that the park no longer felt like a place for children and families. Nicola wanted to change that.
Connected communities
Working alongside local volunteers, she organised free football sessions in the park and invited families to come along. Children from different schools started turning up, making new friends, building confidence, and enjoying being active outdoors together. Parents stayed to watch and as a result, started chatting and forming their own friendships.
What began as a simple football session became something much bigger: a connected community.
This is the kind of transformation that happens when Spurgeons works hand in hand with local partners to meet the needs of the families in their communities.
