Sexual abuse is activity or behaviour that occurs without consent.

What is sexual abuse?

This form of abuse includes anything of a sexual nature that makes you feel uncomfortable or you do not want to do. This involves being forced or pressurised into unwanted sexual activity. It is also known as sexual violence. 

Some of the signs of sexual abuse in adults

Some of the signs that someone is/has been sexually abused include:

  • Unexplained bruises or marks 
  • Fearing their partner 
  • Dismissing concerns about their partner/ making excuses for them
  • Justifying their partner's behaviour 
  • Different behaviour
  • Difficulty walking or sitting
Examples of sexual abuse

Below are some examples of sexual abuse:

  • Rape
  • Sexual assault
  • Assault with objects
  • Stealthing (removing a condom without the partner's knowledge)
  • Touching the other person without consent (this includes kissing)
  • Spiking drinks to gain power over the victim.
