Bulimia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is a disorder which causes sufferers to purge (vomit or use laxatives) on purpose to rid themselves of the food they have eaten. Bulimics sometimes binge eat before purging.

What is bulimia?

Bulimia is an eating disorder often characterised by bingeing and purging behaviours.

Signs of bulimia

Signs and symptoms of bulimia can include: 

  • Bingeing on food, followed by making yourself vomit or using laxatives
  • Obsession and worrying about putting on weight
  • Feeling like your eating is out of control
  • Being consumed with thoughts about food
  • Self-criticism about weight
  • Tiredness
  • Feeling guilty/ ashamed
  • Dizziness/ feeling weak
  • Bloating
  • Sore throat
  • Missed or stopped periods.
