What is rainbow breathing mindfulness?

Rainbow breathing is a guided mindfulness breathing technique that can help your child regulate their emotions, reduce feelings of anxiety and create a sense of relaxation and calm. 

This technique is perfect for combining physical movements with controlled breathing as you encourage your child to follow along with each of the colours. 

How to do this rainbow breathing for kids' activity

Simply follow these steps below:

  • First colour the rainbow below
  • Starting at the cloud use your finger to trace the coloured line
  • Breathe in slowly until your finger reaches the top
  • Pause here and hold your breath for a couple of seconds
  • Breathe out slowly and fully as your finger continues down to the end of the rainbow
  • Move your finger through the clouds on to the next colour
  • Repeat for all the colours.
