Do you have a passion to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and families? Spurgeons Children’s Charity is seeking three or four new Trustees, including a new Chair, to join our current Board in bringing prayerful wisdom and strategic guidance over the coming years.
Spurgeons is one of the UK’s leading children’s charities, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families for 150 years. Inspired by our Christian faith, our mission is to improve the lives of families and children who are struggling to cope and to give every child the opportunity of a hope-filled life.
We support children and families across England in a variety of ways including: whole family support in children centres and family hubs, helping young carers, working with families affected by domestic abuse, delivering parenting courses, supporting families affected by imprisonment and offering schools counselling.
We are currently developing a new strategy with a view to advancing and further developing our work in the coming years. We are ambitious and hopeful about how we can use our strong financial position to make a significant impact on many more children’s lives in the future.
We are now seeking new Trustees, including a new Chair, to support Board succession and bring additional skill sets to the Board.
The incoming Chair will work in close partnership with the CEO and Board to further develop and implement our new strategy, bringing wisdom and excellent judgement as the next chapter of Spurgeons’ story is mapped out.
In addition to the Chair role, we are looking to appoint Trustees who bring experience and skills in the following areas:
- Children’s services: we are looking for someone with leadership experience in the children’s services sector. Relevant professional backgrounds include senior management or leadership roles within social services/ the care sector, health, education, local authorities or charitable contexts.
- Churches and Christian networks: we are seeking a Trustee who brings strong relationships and connections within church and Christian networks, to help us develop even more fruitful partnerships with churches in the years to come.
- Other relevant skill sets: we would also welcome applications from candidates who bring a wider range of relevant skills including: commercial acumen, legal, HR and digital skills.
Given an occupational requirement for these roles to be filled by Christians, we are seeking candidates with a personal and active Christian faith who are comfortable and aligned with the statement of faith outlined on the Spurgeons website.
