Nearly half of all parents of teenagers say they feel anxious about their child’s mental wellbeing.

We hear this every day from mums, dads, carers and guardians who are doing everything they can, often while feeling scared, exhausted or unsure where to turn.

Mental health crises are rising, waiting lists for support keep growing and schools are stretched to their limits. Young people face the constant threat of online exploitation while social media surrounds them with impossible standards, filtered perfection and endless comparisons. Add in frightening headlines, worries about self‑image, peer pressure and relentless academic expectations and it all builds up.

Throughout our appeal ‘It’s a lot’, we will explore the myriads of pressures facing teens and their parents. While these stories may feel overwhelming, they highlight that with strong, supported families and the right services in place, it doesn’t have to be.

At Spurgeons, we want parents to know that they are not alone, and they’re not expected to have all the answers. Supporting a teenager is incredibly hard and Spurgeons are here to walk parents through that journey with them.

That’s why our work spans schools, communities and digital spaces. Through one-to-one counselling in education settings, tailored family support within local communities and accessible online resources, not only are we helping young people get the right support at the right time but providing tailored support to parents as they navigate it all too.

None of this would be possible without the ongoing commitment of our supporters, partners and funders. Your involvement enables us to reach more families, increase our impact and ensure that no family faces life’s struggles alone.
