In the 2023/24 academic year, around 171,000 pupils in England were classed as severely absent, meaning they missed at least half of their school sessions. That is a lot of young people left struggling behind the scenes.
When teenagers are drowning in pressure, it's a lot. At Spurgeons, we support young people facing school avoidance through counselling and wraparound family support. We work with the whole family to understand what is happening and help them move forward together.
28% of 12–18-year-olds have avoided school at some point in the past year, a clear sign of the pressures and challenges many young people face.
At Spurgeons, we support families and young people navigating school avoidance, helping them access the right guidance and emotional support.
Our services include:
• Family Support Team sessions
• Counselling
• Digital resources to help families and teens cope
If your child is struggling with school, you are not alone, we’re here to help.
*Morgan is a fictional young person, but his story is inspired by many of the young people we meet everyday.
