Spurgeons news roundup: what’s been going on across the organisation?
With Spurgeons' staff carrying out important work in communities across our various services, it can be hard to keep up with what's been happening!
This round-up of news over the last few weeks gives an insight into some of the work we do every day across the country.
Family day at HMP Winchester
Our prisons team at Winchester organised a fun family day so that the children of prisoners could play and enjoy being with their dads in a way that isn't normally possible during visits.
Children took part in craft activities and enjoyed important quality time with their fathers. One dad said that 'it made me realise how important being a dad and family man is to me.'
Birmingham Young Carers' climbing excursion
The incredible young carers that we support in Birmingham enjoyed a fun trip to try their hand at climbing!
These amazing young people are responsible for caring for a family member, and get little time to themselves and to socialise. The support they receive from our team includes mental health support, education assistance, and precious time out to enjoy themselves.
Easter Egg donations to our Elmbridge family centre
Hill Construction kindly donated 80 Easter eggs to families that we support in Elmbridge, Surrey.
Our Elmbridge team assists local families with a range of services including advice, mental health support, help accessing financial assistance, parenting sessions and free courses.
Hodge Hill Family Hub community Iftar event
At our Hodge Hill hub in Birmingham, our staff put on a welcoming event for local people. Visitors created stained-glass murals, broke fast and enjoyed a delicious meal.
Our family hubs off a wealth of support to the community, from parenting classes and groups to childcare advice, access to midwives, additional needs support and fun activities such as messy play.

Birmingham young carers receive first aid training
Our young carers received potentially life-saving knowledge at a first aid course this month.
For our young people who care for a family member, learning how to administer first aid can be invaluable and empower them to feel confident in their role.
